Fr. Bill Whittier Addiction Treatment And Rehabilitation Center, Gulu - Uganda

PACTA (Program for Prevention, Awareness, Counselling and Treatment for Addictions) Uganda is a non-profit, non-governmental, community-based organization affiliated to the Archdiocese of Gulu in Northern Uganda that was founded way back in 2004 by Rev. Fr. Samuel Okidi Mwaka, a very enthusiastic, recovering priest who in his dream has been praying to find cure for alcohol. The organization's primarily primarily caters for individuals and families affected by alcohol and substance abuse, in order to bring about positive changes in their lives, enhance their sense of belonging, self-confidence through the provision of a sound psychosocial support systems, treatment of alcoholism / Addictive illnesses, and economic empowerment for a sober, healthy and productive community. At its initial stage, the organisation began by raising awareness in the community. In 2007, when Pete Traux (RIP), Fr. Sam and Fr. Bill Whittier in Minnesota, USA, together they envisioned building an addiction treatment and rehab facility in Uganda, "Hazelden in Uganda". In 2018, Fr. Bill Whittier Addiction Treatment and Rehab facility was established in Gulu, Uganda, marking a significant milestone in the organization's efforts to combat addiction in the country.
